Miss Mansell

Music Lead

At Shefford Lower School we believe that the implementation of music provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience that will fulfil personal and academic achievements. Pupils will get the opportunity to learn an instrument, perform to an audience and enhance their overall music knowledge.

At Shefford Lower School we teach the children to:

Listen and appraise a variety of different genres and historical pieces. Children will be able to understand the musical elements within each piece.

Explore a range of instruments, notation and rhythmic patterns.

Engage in musical conversation, commenting on specific likes and dislikes in relation to music. This will include the use of key music terminology.

Gain a love for singing, in many contexts

Be open to the possibility of your ears and soul being challenged, be curious about how that may be done, be hungry for new sounds, be thirsty for what you don't know yet.

Music lead school:

As a Lead Music School, we work in close collaboration with our local Music Hub (Inspiring music) and other partner schools to support and develop high-quality music education across schools within Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes. We provide guidance, share best practice, and help strengthen music provision by acting as a role model for local schools. Through this partnership, we support curriculum development, inclusive musical opportunities, and teacher development, ensuring that all pupils have access to engaging and inspiring music education. Our aim is to foster a strong musical culture within schools and contribute to the wider growth of music across the local community.

Culture connect:

Culture Connect is a networking group aligned with schools across the area, dedicated to expanding cultural and arts opportunities for students. By working collaboratively, the group fosters partnerships, shares resources, and develops innovative programs to widen access to the arts. Through this collective effort, Culture Connect enhances the creative experiences available to young people and strengthens the cultural offer across the local community.

Widen Access – Ensure all students benefit from diverse arts and cultural opportunities.

Strengthen Partnerships – Collaborate with schools, local artists, and cultural organisations.
