Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At our school, we are committed to creating a community where everyone feels valued, respected and included. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are at the heart of our school values and guide the way we support our pupils, staff and wider community.

We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive regardless of their background, identity, ability or beliefs. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils feel safe, supported and confident to be themselves while developing respect and understanding for others.

Our Commitment

We actively promote equality and celebrate diversity throughout school life. This includes ensuring that our policies, curriculum and daily practices support a fair and inclusive environment for all.

We work to:

  • Promote respect, kindness and understanding between all members of our school community

  • Ensure every pupil has equal opportunities to learn, achieve and participate

  • Celebrate the diversity of cultures, identities and experiences within our school

  • Challenge discrimination, prejudice and stereotypes

  • Support pupils to develop empathy, respect and a sense of belonging

Inclusive Learning Environment

Our curriculum and school activities reflect the diverse world we live in. Through lessons, assemblies and enrichment opportunities, pupils learn about different cultures, perspectives and experiences, helping them to develop into respectful and responsible members of society.

We also ensure that teaching approaches and support systems meet the needs of all learners, including those with special educational needs, disabilities or additional support needs.

Working Together

Creating an inclusive school community is a shared responsibility. We work closely with pupils, staff, families and external partners to ensure that equality and inclusion remain central to everything we do.

Through our ongoing commitment to EDI, we aim to build a school where everyone feels that they belong and where diversity is recognised as a strength.

How EDI is Taught Through the Curriculum

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are embedded throughout our curriculum to help pupils develop respect, understanding and appreciation for the diverse world around them. Through a range of subjects and learning opportunities, pupils explore different cultures, identities, perspectives and experiences.

In subjects such as PSHE, RE, English, History and Geography, pupils learn about fairness, equality, identity and the importance of respecting differences. Lessons encourage discussion, critical thinking and empathy, helping pupils to understand the value of inclusion and the impact of discrimination or prejudice.

Our curriculum also highlights a diverse range of voices, cultures and achievements, ensuring that pupils see representation and learn about contributions from people of different backgrounds, identities and experiences.

Through assemblies, themed learning days and awareness events, we further promote values such as respect, kindness, equality and belonging, helping pupils develop into thoughtful and responsible members of society.

Student Voice and Inclusion Groups

We believe that pupils play an important role in shaping an inclusive school community. Through student voice opportunities and inclusion groups, pupils are encouraged to share their views, ideas and experiences.

Groups such as our Neurodiversity Champions and pupil leadership roles help promote understanding, awareness and acceptance across the school. These groups work alongside staff to support initiatives that celebrate diversity and encourage a culture of respect and inclusion.

By giving pupils a voice and opportunities to take leadership roles, we help them develop confidence, empathy and a strong sense of responsibility for creating a school where everyone feels valued and included.
